The Path to Search Engine Optimization and the SEO Process

The SEO Process

The research for keywords and links requires a defined path.

The path to successful search engine optimization is a series of regularly repeated actions that follow a defined optimization process which includes research for keywords and links. Search engine optimization embeds the proper language into a web page to communicate with the search engines. With this language, a website can be seen by the search engines, and will appear in search queries. Without optimization, valuable effort and resources are wasted, and the website becomes “a path to nowhere”.

  • Keyword Research

–Research current trends to learn what people use in their search queries
–Use analytical tools to choose the best keywords
–Compile a list of the best keywords, long-tail phrases, and titles
–Review the web content on each page of a website

  • Write new web copy or refresh current content with targeted keywords specific to the page topic

–Place the most important keywords in the title, tags, and the first paragraph
–Incorporate the most important keyword several times through the page for keyword density
Keyword stuffing adds no value to the ranking (using the same keyword repeatedly in several different pages unless the page subject warrants such use)
Edit copy for typographical or punctuation errors

  • Create a browser-friendly file structure. All these components, tied to each other, form the structure of a cohesive web page. Search engine crawlers only can find each page when these actions have been performed
  • A good title indicates to the search engine crawlers the main subject of the page
  • URL has keywords that illustrate the subject
  • Add targeted keywords to these metatags

Meta description
Meta tags
H1, H2, H3 tags
Strong
Image tags
Linksinbound and backlink—must have value and relevance to that page topic

  • Generate the sitemap, submit the page for indexing to the search engines, and add the verification code to that page. This will make the website “search engine friendly
  • Repetition guarantees higher ranking for a website. Repeat this process as a scheduled routine (daily, weekly, or monthly)
  • Updates and changes take time (days to weeks) to see measurable changes in ranking results. A newly refreshed page will quickly attract the search engines.

The Purpose of A Web Project Management Team

web project management processWhen an idea is analyzed, there is a transmittable synergy which flows through everyone involved in the new project. Good web project management professionals work with their clients in systematic discovery process, and use established project management steps with a series of specific questions to identify the requirements. From this emerges the wireframe which is a paper sketch or skeletal design of the website. These steps clearly define the project, and look for potential problems that might emerge along the way. This layered approach causes that creative spark to evolve from a concept into a functional website.

When a web project is approached with enthusiasm, excellent communication, and action, these combined elements produce the intended result: a search engine friendly website with search engine ranking, web traffic, keyword rich web content, and visual appeal.

Search Engine Optimization and Web Project Management

Successful search engine optimization (SEO) is an on-going process of marketing research. To optimize a website requires frequent execution of certain actions:

• Research for current trends in keywords and long tail phrases. Track usage—study the competitiveness of each keyword, and how many times it is used
• Create rich content using targeted keywords and update web copy
• Add those keyword changes to the web code
Link building strategy
Search engine submission: Create a site map to remove any obstacles to the indexing activities of search engines. (Search engines keep an index of the words they find, and where they find them, which allows users to look for words or combinations found in that index)
• Repeat all these actions on a frequent basis to improve search engine ranking

Search engine strategy requires skill, planning, research, and dedicated human effort to raise a website’s ranking on the search engines such as Google, Bing, and Yahoo.

Professional search engine marketing utilizes web analytics to track website performance over a period of time. Changing trends and technologies constantly alter how people search for a topic. This demands persistent investigation into current search trends.

Successful SEO is the result of defined strategic planning, attention to research, writing web content, and updating web code. With our specialized SEO training and tools at affordable rates, our search engine consultants are better positioned to help improve your website ranking which will help to generate new leads. Your time is very valuable and your business requires your complete attention.

Why Search Engine Optimization?

What is your current search engine ranking? Now is the perfect time to review your business presence on the Internet. The reason to optimize your website is found in the answers to these questions:

• Can people find your business on the internet?
• Is your website search engine friendly?
• Does your website show up on the first page in a Google search?
• Are you getting leads that become sales?
• Do you need help to optimize your website, place the right keywords, and build links?
• Is your website outdated or in need of improvement?
• Are the graphics, colors, logos and images in need of updating?
• Are you doing business without a web presence?
• Are you happy with the ROI from your website?

SEO (search engine optimization) improves the visibility of a website or web page in search engines. To remain competitive, the website must be properly optimized to be seen by a search engine’s results. Without carefully planned SEO, a well-designed website is akin to a beautiful ship stuck in dry dock as the other ships float to the sea.

In a browser search, most visitors disregard all but the first two or three links of the first page. Proper optimization is a regular process of adding rich keywords into the web content. These changes and updates are also added to the web code (Meta tags, description, images, titles, tags, navigation buttons, and links).

Apposite keywords must be strategically placed within each page, and must reflect well-written, unique, keyword-rich content to strengthen the position of a website in search engine ranking. Keyword overuse will not improve search engine positioning.

Keywords are carefully chosen from the words, terms, or phrases that are most used by people to search the internet. Successful optimization identifies specific search terms or keywords on a given topic. Ranking is improved when a site begins to appear more often in the search results list, then it will receive more visitors from the search engines.

Web Project Management Defined

The synergy created when an idea is analyzed as a project, and—through systematic planning—identification of project requirements causes design and creation to coalesce an idea into a functioning website; this result arises from the combined effect of the chosen collaborating team’s ability to communicate and perform as a cohesive entity focused upon this idea.

Simple SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for Your Website

The purpose of your website is to capture leads, generate interest, or educate. How do people find your website? Maintained monthly, these simple tips will improve traffic to your website.

• Page title
This is a unique title which contains 3-5 words of 40 to 60 characters. Identify those keywords and phrases your visitors will use to query search engines and choose your link over the competitor’s link.

• Meta Description
Be sure to review and update the Meta Description for this page. This will improve the CTR (Click through rate), choose from 120 to 150 characters, include the same unique keywords in the title, and add those unique keyword phrases. By using the same keywords in the Title and Meta Description, the search engines can display the Meta Description instead of pulling potentially useless text from the page.

Be specific. Take the time to make a list of at least 50 keywords and key phrases that apply to your Web Page. Type these words into the major internet search engines. See how these competitor sites compare to your Website, and look at their Meta Tag descriptions. Create several versions to distill them into 25 high priority keyword and phrases, and then distill them further into a 10 word description which includes long and short phrases (long tail refers to the use of highly competitive broad keywords, and short tail refers to very narrowly focused keywords).

• Page Content
Within the body of text on the webpage, repeat the same unique keywords and phrases. The first sentence for the content can be the exact same text used in the Meta Description. Highlight keywords wherever possible with bold text, and include HTML headlines to help the search engines find the most important keywords. A Web Page Analyzer will show how search engines view your Web page.

• Keyword Density
The keywords used in the Title, Meta Description and Page Content should be listed first in a density report with the first most important key word having a greater gap from the non-important keywords.

The ranking factor which all search engines use is good keyword and keyword phrase density separation between important and non-important keywords is between 3% and 5%. The greater the content focus, the better the search engines can determine what the Web Page is about. If the search engine has problems, so will the visitors to your site.

Practice Good Self-Care.

Wintertime conjures up visions of mouth-watering meals filled with stout foods typical of cold weather. Rather than grab, gulp, or gobble food, first ask yourself, “What does my body need to eat to be at my best and to be healthy? “

After all, when we’re born, there are no accompanying instruction manuals for our care and feeding! As each of us is different, so, too, are our internal workings. We give our physical body a voice when we ask, “What do you want me to feed you?” With practice, this becomes a quiet knowing; an intuitive sense for what is truly needed for healthful sustenance vs. self-sabotaging emotional wants.

A well-balanced and healthful meal is rewarded with an inimitable feeling of satisfaction and of satiation—a remarkable feeling emerges after receiving the proper fuel—happy, thankful, and relieved—almost like an internal dance of joy!
When thoughtful eating is combined with heartfelt gratitude for the gift of life that has been given through this sustenance, the reward is almost always an unquenchable flow of imaginative thought, ideas and prolific creative output.

No need to wait for spring to wake up your Creative Muse! Start today—one mouthful at a time. What goes into our mouth certainly impacts our output—what we think, say, do, or don’t do. Pick and choose carefully that next mouthful. It is the most important gift of life we can give to our self. Nothing and no one else can do this for us.

With proper care and feeding of our self—known as “practice good self-care”—our Creative Muse is much more inclined to come out and play. The rewards are endless as we live our best life.

“Be the best that I can be, and I bring out the best in you.” – Kathleen Hird Kostner
